Donald R. Tyer
Don Tyer joined Stevenson’s Board of Education in August 2022. Don and his wife, Dr. Kristin Wojcik, have lived in Long Grove for 21 years. They have three children (two attending Stevenson and an 8th grader at Woodlawn Middle School), three dogs and a colorful assortment of backyard chickens.
Don currently serves as a prosecutor in the Felony Trial Division of the State’s Attorney’s Office, a position he held from 2007 to 2010 and again beginning in 2012 until the present. His past experience includes working as counsel to municipal entities and school districts, the latter of which he advised on matters related to special education, employment and student discipline.
Don received his Juris Doctor degree cum laude from the John Marshall Law School. Prior to his work in law, Don was a social studies teacher and an administrator at schools in Chicago and northern Illinois. He has also worked as an educational consultant in the Middle East. Over the course of more than 10 years, Don developed a deep understanding of classroom teaching, school operations/administration, curriculum and policy development as well as teacher evaluation. Don received his Bachelor’s degree in Teaching of Social Studies from the University of Illinois.
In addition to his professional experience, Don is an involved and active member of the community. He has been a volunteer for the Long Grove Historical Society, the Prairie State Legal Foundation, the Waukegan to College Foundation, the church where his family attends, and he was the Cubmaster for the Cub Scouts at Country Meadows for seven years.
